Bringing Bhutan's Hotels Online: Inside the Digital Masterclass Initiative

Bhutan's hospitality industry is built on something rare — warmth, authenticity, and a sense of place that few destinations in the world can match. But in an age where the journey begins on a screen long before a guest sets foot in the country, even the most welcoming property risks being invisible if it isn't discoverable online.

That's the gap the Digital Masterclass Program — initiated by the Department of Tourism Secretariat (DoT) and the Hotel & Restaurant Association of Bhutan (HRAB) — was designed to close. And aBit Private Limited is proud to be the on-the-ground technology partner walking alongside DoT-registered 3-star hotels as they take their first confident steps into the digital space.

More Than a Training — A Transformation

The Masterclass isn't a one-off workshop. It's a hands-on, property-by-property engagement where the aBit team visits hoteliers across the country, sits with their staff, understands their unique story, and helps translate it into a digital presence that actually works — search-friendly listings, polished imagery, accurate information, and booking pathways that convert curious travelers into confirmed guests.

From boutique mountain retreats to riverside resorts, every property carries its own identity. Our role isn't to make them look the same. It's to make them findable, bookable, and beautifully represented — without losing what makes them Bhutanese.

The Hotels Coming Online

A few of the properties we've had the privilege of working with so far:

  • Kingaling Hotel — a versatile hub for events, conferences, and travelers, now fully accessible to event planners and guests online.
  • Zhingkham Resort (Bhutan Hotels and Resorts) — perched above the valley with sweeping views, now strengthening its reach to discerning travelers.
  • Damchen Riverside Resort — spacious, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed, now connected with modern travelers searching for ease and warmth.
  • Spirit Village Lodge — a quiet, culturally rooted escape, now sharing its authentic experience without losing its soul.
  • Dhumra Farm Resort — where understated luxury meets farm living, now telling its story to a wider audience through digital platforms.
  • Hotel Sonamgang, Punakha — fully online, fully visible, and ready to welcome guests with seamless booking.

Each visit is a conversation — about who the property serves, what makes it different, and how the right digital tools can carry that message further.

Why This Matters for Bhutan's Tourism Future

Tourism is one of Bhutan's most important industries, and 3-star hotels form its backbone — hosting the majority of mid-tier international and regional travelers. When these properties are hard to find, hard to book, or poorly represented online, the entire visitor experience suffers, and so does the country's tourism revenue.

By equipping DoT-registered hotels with proper digital infrastructure — from accurate Google listings to functional booking engines, social media presence, and channel management — the Masterclass is doing something quietly powerful: it's leveling the playing field. A family-run lodge in a remote dzongkhag can now compete for visibility alongside city hotels, simply because the tools and training are finally within reach.

aBit's Commitment

For aBit, this work sits at the heart of what we do. As a Bhutanese technology company specializing in hospitality — from IT infrastructure and Wi-Fi to PMS, POS, Channel Managers, Online Booking Engines, and websites — we believe the future of Bhutanese tourism is digital, but it must also be deeply local.

Working hand-in-hand with DoT and HRAB, we're not just bringing hotels online. We're helping shape a more connected, more competitive, and more visible Bhutanese hospitality industry — one property at a time.

A Better Innovation For Tomorrow.
