Overview
Golden Knot opened its doors on 15 October 2026, and Thimphu gained something new: a luxury hotel built around spirituality, healing and quiet comfort. It sits above Druk School on the road to Buddha Point, with 53 rooms and suites looking out over the capital.
Guests are welcomed by a Zambala statue and a silk mural of the Medicine Buddha. The Eight Auspicious Symbols and the story of the Four Harmonious Friends run through the hotel’s spaces, alongside traditional carvings and Bhutanese craftsmanship.
Beyond the rooms there is a heated infinity pool, the Arura Healing Beauty & Spa with private steam and sauna, a beauty salon and a fitness centre. For dining there is a main restaurant, private family dining, the Arura Banquet for weddings and conferences, and the Marchang Rooftop Bar with panoramic views of the Thimphu Valley.
A hotel like this is only as good as the experience it delivers on the first night. Behind every booking, phone call, card payment and Wi-Fi connection sits a technology foundation guests never see. Golden Knot asked aBit to build that foundation, and to have the hotel team confident on its systems before the first guest arrived.
The vision behind Golden Knot
Golden Knot’s Co-Founder and CEO, Mr. Dorji Dhap, brings years of experience as a finance and operations leader, and it showed from the first meeting. He saw early that technology in a luxury hotel isn’t a back-office afterthought. It decides whether a guest’s Wi-Fi works in the spa, whether the front desk can reach housekeeping in seconds, and whether the numbers at night audit can be trusted.
His forward thinking set the direction, and his attention to quality held every part of the project to a high standard. He asked the right questions, made decisions quickly and expected each detail to be done properly. That clarity is what allowed two aBit teams to work in parallel and deliver on time.
“aBit did a fantastic job with our IT infrastructure and software. We are glad that we chose aBit for this. Very professional and very reliable.”
Mr. Dorji Dhap, Co-Founder and CEO, Golden Knot
What we delivered
aBit delivered the hotel’s core technology systems, under one partner and one point of accountability.
IT infrastructure and network
- Network racks and patch panels, fixed and fitted out with the hotel’s network devices
- Routers and firewalls, configured for secure guest and staff networks
- A dedicated server room to house the hotel’s core systems
Wi-Fi
- Property-wide wireless access points covering rooms, suites, dining, the banquet hall, the rooftop bar and the wellness areas
Communications and security
- A PABX telephone system connecting guest rooms, the front desk and every department
- CCTV surveillance for guest safety and property security, watched from a monitoring wall in the security room
End-user systems
- Computers for the front office, back office and departments
Hotel PMS and Channel Manager
- Installation and configuration of the Hotel PMS, set up around how Golden Knot runs
- A Channel Manager connecting the hotel’s room inventory to its online booking channels
- Close to a month of hands-on training for staff across departments
How we did it
The project ran on two tracks at once.
Infrastructure. Over about a month, our infrastructure team brought the hotel’s network to life. That meant fixing racks and patch panels, installing the network devices and Wi-Fi access points, then configuring routers and firewalls, the telephone system and every computer. Each layer was tested before the next went on, so the hotel opened on a network that had already been proven.
Software and training. In parallel, a second team installed and configured the Hotel PMS and Channel Manager. They then spent close to a month training the staff, department by department, on the workflows they would use every day. By opening day, the team running Golden Knot was not learning its systems in front of guests.
The team behind the project
Omnath led the whole project, infrastructure and software alike. He kept both teams on schedule and in step with the hotel’s construction and opening timeline. Our engineers worked through racks, patch panels, access points, routing, firewalls, telephones and computers, while the software team stayed with the hotel’s staff until they were confident on every screen.
We are proud of what this team delivered. Thank you, Omnath, and everyone who worked on Golden Knot.
The result
Golden Knot opened on 15 October 2026 with its technology already working:
- Connected guests. Complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi in every room and across the property’s public spaces.
- Connected departments. A telephone system linking rooms, the front desk, housekeeping, kitchen and management.
- A secure property. CCTV coverage and firewalled networks that keep guest and hotel data separate.
- A trained team. Staff who knew the Hotel PMS before the first check-in.
- Room to grow. A server room and network designed to take on new services as the hotel evolves.
With everything installed, tested and the staff trained, aBit formally handed the project over to Mr. Dorji Dhap, Co-Founder and CEO of Golden Knot.
Thank you, Golden Knot
We thank Mr. Dorji Dhap and the Golden Knot team for trusting aBit with the technology behind Thimphu’s newest luxury hotel. We wish Golden Knot every success, and we look forward to supporting the hotel as it grows.
